What is Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT)?

KAT is a new system of care that combines evidence-based medicine with traditional therapies. Medically prescribed Ketamine acts as a supportive tool that aids in the removal of barriers to connection, allowing you to accept the guidance of your inner healing intelligence and Qi’s experienced team of medical professionals and facilitators, to break through previously treatment-resistant challenges.

Our Approach

Leading researchers consider upwards of 70% of the therapeutic benefit to come from exceptional preparation and integration support. Frequently Asked Questions

  • There is a range of conditions for which KAT is suitable. Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (or KAT) is a program that can be considered if you are someone struggling with depression, grief, anxiety, loss, or seeking healing from past trauma.

It has also been regarded as an effective option for people with treatment-resistant conditions who have tried medications and therapy with little success.

KAT is also an option if you wish to enhance your mind to feel more connected to your body, your identity, and your purpose. Accessing parts of your subconscious mind can allow you to seek comfort, healing, and inspiration.

  • Each person and each experience is unique.

During low dose sessions, you may feel mild dissociation, relaxation, mindfulness, lowered defenses, anxiolytic and empathogenic effects, as well as anti-depressant effects.

Moderate dose sessions may involve moderate dissociation, out-of-body experiences, and an expansive sense of self.

At higher doses, you may experience full dissociation from the body and various transpersonal and mystical experiences.

Depending on your intention and goals for the KAT program, you will work with the Medical Doctor and your therapist to determine the best dose of Ketamine for you at each session.

  • Ketamine medicine sessions are generally 3-4 hours in length allowing for a natural flow from preparation to experiential to integration phases.

Each client has a unique experience, which is dependent on several variables including dosage, route of administration, and mindset/expectation.

  • Yes, Ketamine is legal in Canada, and subject to medical regulation. Ketamine is controlled under Schedule I of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act which allows it to be used in clinical contexts. It is the only legal psychedelic-like substance in Canada.

It is not legal for recreational use.

  • We use sublingual/buccal and intramuscular routes of administration. You will have the option of either using compounded ketamine lozenges (self-administered sublingually and held under the tongue for several minutes) or receiving the medicine via intramuscular injection by a nurse. Our team will talk to you in detail about your options to support your decision-making.

  • You can. However, most recreational use of controlled substances come with risks such as contamination, unsafe environments, and dosing errors.

In contrast, Ketamine-Assisted Therapy at Qi is a safe, monitored, therapeutic treatment program overseen by clinical doctors, nurses, and counsellors for people who have a desire to improve their quality of life by improving their mental health.

Through the use of Ketamine to enhance and deepen the therapeutic process KAT can help you uncover insights into the root causes of your mental and physical pain.
