Private Functional Medicine
Anita Racic, MD
Dr. Racic is a born and raised Vancouverite and a graduate of the UBC School of Medicine, with over 25 years of experience as a medical doctor. She has worked in both primary care and mental health settings, providing care to patients with complex and chronic conditions. She is very experienced in using conventional standard of care therapies. However, Dr. Racic noticed that in the existing traditional model of chronic disease management there is an over emphasis on pharmaceutical drugs, and people are still not getting well. They are surviving, but not thriving.
Eager to discover what else could be done to build upon conventional therapies, Dr. Racic embarked on an intensive educational journey in advanced preventative medicine through A4M, the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. In 2017, she completed her fellowship and became board certified in functional, metabolic, and nutritional medicine.
Through this training, Dr. Racic has become proficient in using “outside the box” tools, both for diagnosis and treatment. She spends time discussing patients’ histories in detail, and uses specialized functional medicine labs which allow her to figure out the root causes of symptoms and illness. Dr. Racic believes in searching diligently, looking “under the hood” in order to help her patients feel their best and experience optimal health. Rather than simply prescribing pharmaceuticals to mask symptoms, her expanded treatment toolbox includes the use of bio-identical hormones, diet, nutritional supplements, lifestyle changes and appropriate and novel use of medications.
Dr. Racic believes this functional medicine/anti-aging approach can benefit not only those who are currently ill, but also those who want to prevent and decrease the risk of developing diseases. Those interested in optimizing their performance, both physical and mental, can also benefit from this type of personalized medicine. During Dr. Racic’s training, she discovered that taking these integrated approaches to medical care open up the possibility for health and vitality to be experienced into the tenth decade of life, and beyond.
