What is Acupuncture?
The core philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on the concept that qi flows through the body in a network of pathways known as meridians. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine surgical-grade needles at various points along these meridians in order to strengthen weak qi or remove blockages along the path, therefore restoring proper circulation of qi and returning the body to a state of balance and well-being.
“A Registered Acupuncturist has 3 years of in-depth training in TCM medical theory and diagnosis, acupuncture point location and needling techniques, along with cupping techniques and will be able to offer you an effective treatment plan for acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a very safe procedure when preformed by a Registered Acupuncturist, as they have received mandatory acupuncture safety training, in addition to over 450 hours of supervised clinical experience.”
~ Quoted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of British Columbia, TCMABC
You can be assured that when you receive your acupuncture treatments at Qi Integrated Health, we will provide you with the best benefits that acupuncture has to offer. All of our practitioners are registered professionals in British Columbia and maintain good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC, CTCMA.
How Does Acupuncture Help?
From a TCM perspective, acupuncture works by restoring balance to the meridian channel system; draining areas where too much Qi is accumulated and filling up areas of insufficient flow. Where there is flow, there is no pain; where there is accumulation, there is pain.
From a Western perspective, acupuncture needles are thought to stimulate a local immune response at the points of insertion, literally pointing the way to where the body needs attention. Pain is often due to soft tissues becoming hypertonic, creating what we know as knots or trigger points in the muscle. An acupuncture needle is able to enter the muscle belly precisely at that trigger point and ‘turn it off’, therefore relaxing the muscle and relieving the pain.
At What Age Can I Be Treated For Acupuncture?
Qi Integrated Health has provided acupuncture treatments to patients ranging in age from 2 to 90 years old. For babies under 2 years old we provide Acutonic Treatments, which involves the application of sound frequencies and vibrations to treat illness – a treatment method that dates back thousands of years to Ancient Oriental and near Eastern cultures.

What Should I Expect – Acupuncture Treatment Process
We welcome you to our acupuncture clinic in Kitsilano, Vancouver with a cup of green tea or water before you go into your appointment. On your first visit we ask that you fill out a health history form, which will provide your practitioner with any necessary details regarding your condition.
Each time you visit the clinic, your registered acupuncturist will take a few minutes at the beginning of treatment to ask you some questions and assess where you are at in your treatment plan and overall health. Any adjustments that need to be made to the treatment plan will be discussed at this time.
Acupuncture needles are left on the body between 5-45 minutes depending on the indication for the specific area/condition being treated.
Acupuncture Healing – When Should I Feel A Difference?
Typically our patients will feel a difference within 24 hours of acupuncture treatment. About 90% of our patients notice a change right after treatment. There are different patterns of recovery periods and pain, please ask your registered acupuncturist for more details on the best recovery methods.
